We are always keen to hear from experienced Nurses who are interested in developing their professional portfolio and using their expertise and knowledge to become an expert witness.
We require all our consultants to hold a nursing qualification with current NMC registration and we expect them to have a minimum of eight years post-registration experience. Evidence of continuing professional development and current practice is essential. Ideal candidates will have previous clinical experience in one or more of the following areas of practice:
• Paediatrics (intensive care/high dependency/complex community care services)
• Learning disability
• Acquired brain injury
• Spinal injury
• Trauma and orthopaedics.
Knowledge and experience of the delivery and management of community care packages for individuals with complex care requirements would also be desirable.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills are necessary and an ability to produce clear, concise, technical reports with fully costed recommendations is required. Training is provided but candidates should therefore have a good standard of literacy and numeracy.
The role involves nationwide travel and successful candidates should therefore hold a full driving licence and have access to a vehicle.
Associate experts work on a self-employed basis and would therefore be expected to possess the necessary business and administrative skills to manage an Associate case load. Whilst there is a good level of flexibility, candidates should be aware that a high level of commitment is required. Involvement in cases can continue for several years with intermittent involvement from the Care Expert who may need to attend case conferences, participate in meetings, undertake follow-up work and attend court to give evidence under Oath.
In return, successful candidates will receive excellent rates of pay, specialist training and ongoing mentorship and supervision. Technical and administrative support will be provided together with opportunities for networking and peer support.
